Better Global Financial Advisory with Blockchain

Streamlining cross-border referral processing with Hyperledger Fabric integrated with an existing documentation platform.

Client overview

HLB International

HLB International is a global network of independent advisory and accounting firms, established in 1969. The network comprises member firms in 157 countries, offering services such as audit, accounting, tax, and business advisory. Economic Challenges for Ukrainian Exporters

Each member firm functions autonomously, which has led to challenges in managing cross-border referrals. The decentralised approach created inconsistencies in processing, delayed status updates, and made it difficult to maintain a single, transparent source of truth. Without a unified system, the network risked inefficiencies that could affect client trust and operational reliability.

The Urgent Need for a Unified Digital Solution

To address these challenges, HLB International recognized the need for a streamlined, technology-driven platform. They aimed to modernize their referral process by integrating a blockchain-based backend into their existing Microsoft SharePoint interface. This innovative solution automates status updates via smart contracts and securely stores all referral data on an immutable ledger.

How we did it

Project scoping and consultations

We began by engaging with HLB International’s stakeholders to thoroughly understand the challenges of coordinating referrals across 157 countries. The objective was clear: enhance transparency and streamline processes without disrupting the established SharePoint interface.

POC & integration

Our team developed a proof of concept by integrating a Hyperledger Fabric–based blockchain backend. Using Java and Docker, we built a robust system that interfaced directly with the existing SharePoint application. This solution leveraged smart contracts to automate status changes, ensuring that data updates occurred seamlessly and reliably.

Deployment & optimisation

Following rigorous testing and quality assurance, we successfully deployed the platform within the four-month timeframe. The solution’s impact was immediate, enabling swift access to funds for exporters, and its innovative approach was later recognized with the prestigious 11:FS Award in the Fintech for Good category.
