Frequently asked questions

The Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF) is an OECD standard for collecting and exchanging information on crypto-asset transactions. It requires certain crypto asset service providers to report transactions to tax authorities in a standardised XML format.

CARF reporting starts on 1 January 2026 in at least 48 jurisdictions, with over 60 committed overall. The first exchange of information between tax authorities is expected in 2027. All EU member countries are obliged to follow DAC8 (Directive 2011/16/EU on administrative cooperation in the field of taxation) and fulfill CARF obligations.

In-scope crypto-asset service providers called CASPs or RCASPs — including exchanges, brokers, ATMs, banks and fintechsand custodians — must report certain crypto asset transactions and account details holdings to their local tax authority.

Reportable transactions include exchanges between crypto-assets, conversions to fiat, and certain wallet-to-wallet transfers handled by in-scope providers. Reported assets are also classified into five types: buys, sells, transfers, trades and payments.

By mapping your data sources early, securing complete transaction records, and implementing a reporting solution that can produce validated CARF XML files with minimal setup — such as our Crypto Asset Reporting Tool, which can be live in days.

It’s installed in a company’s infrastructure without need for any data transfer to or from outside of the organisation’s infrastructure.

Use the CARF Reporting Solution to convert your transaction data from CSV or raw inputs into the official CARF XML format, validates it in three tiers (structural, logical, regulatory), and provides a detailed validation report before reportfor submission.

Yes, the. XML outputs are checked against the CARF XSD schema, and we provide ongoing schema updates with maintenance SLAs.

All processing occurs within your environment. The CARF reporting solution does not send transaction data to external servers or download any external data during the reporting process.

Likely yes. The module produces CARF-schema XML, which is the technical foundation for DAC8 reporting in the EU. You can use the same files to satisfy DAC8 requirements.
